Complete specification of Gigabyte P55W v7 - Having previously tested Gigabyte P55W v6 laptop at the end of January, now already present successor to the P55W v7 type. The current version is a 15.6-inch gaming laptop series from Gigabyte which is relatively cheaper than previous versions. Modifications made to the casing are limited to several new interfaces and different positions. In addition, a new screen is used for the first time since v4 P55W. 128 GB SSD by Transcend replaced with 256 GB model with Liteon. While the 16 GB RAM size operates in dual-channel mode in v6, 16 GB in v7 is only connected through one memory channel (1 RAM empty slot).

The most important innovation is with the brand new Intel Core i7-7700HQ which replaces the i7-6700HQ core in the v6. Gigabyte relies on Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 with 6 GB dedicated VRAM introduced in the v6 model. The screen is still IPS and Full HD. A DVD burner is also installed for users who still use digital optical disc storage. The reason that the P55W v7 can be offered for a cheaper price (about Rp.24.000.000) than many rivals based on the same CPU and graphics. Lack of metal casing, subwoofer, 4K or WQHD, Thunderbolt 3, and G-Sync. In return, Nvidia Optimus promises low power consumption and longer battery life.

Gigabyte v7 modifies its chasing and interfacial design when compared to the P55W and v5 v4 models. Sharp design and futuristic masculine look with orange eye-catching trim on the top of the base lateral and a soft non-slip touch can bring up fingerprints. However, it is not as flashy as on Asus' ROG or Alienware gaming laptops. Overall, the casing makes a good impression.

While premium gaming laptops now regularly have Thunderbolt 3 ports, this can not be expected in the price range of our sample reviews. As a result, all these versatile and fast interface comparison tools are not available. In return, USB 3.1 Type-C Gen2 is present in laptop v7. Thanks to HDMI 2.0 and mini-DisplayPort, an external 4K display can be used at 60 Hz. Only a few potential buyers will lose the existence of an ancient VGA.

Card reader is available on the front. Unfortunately, Gigabyte has put all the ports at the right distance, including Ethernet for stationary use, on the front side where wires and flash drives can interfere with using an external mouse.

SD Card reader
Gigabyte P55W v7 achieves a mediocre transfer speed with the Toshiba Exceria Pro SDXC 64 GB UHS-II SD reference card. It points to a USB 3.0 interface and does not differ much from other comparison laptops. For comparison: The average transfer speed of all SD card readers we have tested for now is about 63 MB / s; The fast model reaches more than twice the speed up to 213 MB / s.

Mobile Internet access is not good. Gigabyte relies on Intel's tried and fast Module Wireless-AC 8260 (MIMO 2x2) which transmits in the 802.11 standard and in the 5 GHz band.

In addition to the user manual and two DVDs with the OS, software, and drivers, only the power supply is contained in the box. Gigabyte does not offer accessories made specifically for the P55 lineup.

Consumers residing in the US will get a three-year manufacturer's warranty period, a limited period of only two years in Germany (one year on battery and power supply). Details can be found on the official website Here. Gigabyte does not seem to offer a warranty upgrade. In addition to this warranty, 2-year legal reseller warranty is valid.

Input Device

Gigabit has not made any changes to the chiclet backlit keyboard since v4 P55W. The width of the main field is roughly identical to the standard desktop keyboard. Button size and distance do not block touch while typing. Manufacturers do not install special macro buttons or extra regular columns with special functions like those found on larger gaming laptops. The layout is mostly standard and no other surprises.

ClickPad without dedicated button is used for the third time on v7 P55W. It is not uncommon if the second area of the surrogate key is marked with a vertical line not responding to the swipe motion. Only the top surface is intended for this. This size is rather small and has a relatively large area on the side that does not respond to touch. We still have enough room for movement in practice.

With 1920x1080 pixel lcd size, 15.6 inch display of v4, v5 and v6. V7 is equipped with LG Philips LP156WF6 screen. Both display models are matte, based on IPS, and illuminated with LED lights. We do our measurements using the "Native Color" Smart color mode that can be selected in Smart Manager's Gigabyte in the former model. Gigabyte does not offer an alternative screen.

Both panels reach very similar levels in many sub-categories, such as brightness, lighting, and color reproduction. However, a very clear improvement can be ensured in the LP156WF6 whose black color level is much lower and its higher brightness is higher, and the response time is too long than the current v6 at normal levels in the new v7. We can not criticize the sharpness of the image.

By hooking up the Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor (4x 2.8-3.8 GHz, Hyper-Threading, TDP: 45 W) is the successor of Kaby Lake i7-6700HQ Skylake chip (4x 2.6-3.5 GHz, Hyper- Threading, TDP: 45 W) is very popular in the gaming sector. As can be seen, Intel has decided to increase the clock speeds of 200 (base) and 300 MHz (boost) while largely keeping the former architecture, which actually results in significantly higher insignificant performance as it often did before.

The fast TDP processor can be reduced from 45 watts to 35 watts, which then involves performance losses, which are quickly made for bulkier laptops as in this test. We do not know what games are driving the Core i7-7700HQ or even one in the forerunner to its limits.

Compared to other laptops based on the same CPU, Cinebench scores are within the expected range and 5 to 13% higher than all rivals equipped with i7-6700HQ cores in this test. 3.4 GHz can be maintained stable in our Cinebench circle, both AC and battery mode.

System performance
In our opinion it is not surprising that this P55W v7 can place itself on the test pitch at PCMark 8 The benchmark work though only uses one memory channel. The deadlock in the benchmark with MSI and v6 P55W can be explained by the variance in measurement, but then why would Asus be 18% superior here? Because performance components do not provide a reason for this difference, because SSDs are faster in GL502M which is sometimes far superior in sample reviews especially in performing performance. With very fine handling and very short loading times.

Storage device
The M.2 slot comes with 256 GB of Liteon SSD connected via SATA III. Faster and more expensive NVMe SSDs can also be included. Gigabyte additional 1 TB conventional hard drive, 7200 RPM hard drive.

Graphic Card
With Nvidia DirectX 12 GeForce GTX 1060 Pascal introduced in August 2016 taking third place behind GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 between mobile graphics cards. This card has a 6 GB GDDR5 memory that clocks at 8000 MHz effectively and connects through a 192 bit interface. GTX 1060 hours at 1506-1708 MHz (Turbo) by default.

Gaming performance
GTX 1060 is full HD power smoothly enough to make almost all games can be smooth du play. Game exceptions, for example, "Deus Ex Mankind Divided" and "XCOM 2" Players sometimes have to be happy with high preset WQHD (2540x1440). Users who want to play regularly in 4K will need a minimum version of GTX 1070.
