BlackBerry KeyOne has a solid aluminum chassis, which feels good when held. This subjective smartphone is not too heavy, although it weighs about 180 grams.

KeyOne is very stable and just a lot of pressure on the front of the screen can make some ripple on the LCD. The devices displayed are not perfect in terms of building quality and gaps that are sometimes too large. However, we expect this issue to be solved on the final smartphone model.

The SIM card tray and microSD are also made of aluminum. The battery is integrated and there is no protection against water spills or dust.

BlackBerry KeyOne comes with the latest version of Android 7.1 (Nougat). Therefore users get access to the Google App Store with all its apps. Blackberry also promises monthly security updates. All pre-production samples are displayed, however, that come with Google's security patch level by December 2016.
Blackberry Hub is an app that shows messages from mail, text messages, and social media accounts in a central location.

Blackberry uses DTEK application for security aspect. This app offers continuous security monitoring as well as various settings by user or admin respectively.

The main camera of BlackBerry KeyOne uses a 12 MP sensor with f / 2.0 aperture as well as a 1.55 pm pixel size. High pixel light sensitivity is very good performance in low light resolution. Our test samples have already produced decent results, mainly because of the lighting conditions. We liked the low shutter lag, but unfortunately there is no camera image stabilizer because it will not be something big, but a good picture.

We also liked the setting. There are many frame rates for video and you can even switch between 24 or 30 FPS for 4K video size.

BlackBerry KeyOne comes with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 625 CPU, which is typically used for mainstream smartphones. Hope for new chip top not fulfilled. BlackBerry seems to have a greater focus on the runtime of high-end performance.

The benchmark comparison of smartphones does not reveal any surprises, and BlackBerry KeyOne is equivalent to rival comparable. Only the BaseMark OS II memory test falls a bit short. Both processor as well as the amount of memory (3 GB) can be a surprise considering the price. High-end smartphones like Mate 9 or iPhone 7 often easily beat KeyOne in benchmarks and the price is also not much more expensive.

Battery Performance

BlackBerry KeyOne will use 3505 mAh battery. Combined with a Qualcomm 625 SoC and 4.5-inch screen, we expect long battery life. For comparison: Lenovo Moto Z uses identical processors and same-sized (3500 mAh) batteries, but larger ones, although the 5.5-inch AMOLED display is more efficient. We specify video runtimes for up to 20 hours or about 14 hours in a practical runtime test for this device.

Depending on the power consumption of the BlackBerry KeyOne is also equipped and the difference between the AMOLED screen and the IPS panel on KeyOne, the new BlackBerry device should perform at the same level either.
