Lenovo with a business laptop series hardly offers any surprises this year of 2017. Many models only get Kaby Lake updates, but most series still use the same chassis. One notable exception is the T-series series ThinkPad T470 14-inch as well as the T570 series with 15.6-inch size. This is the first time since the arrival of the Tx40 series three years ago if they get a new casing, which is slightly smaller and lighter.

Our test model is ThinkPad T470 20HD002HGE for Rp.23.000.000 with Kaby Lake motherboard, Core i5-7200U processor, 8 GB RAM, 512 GB NVMe-SSD and matte Full HD IPS panel. Comprehensive security equipment as usual and Lenovo now also includes a full Thunderbolt 3 port with a Type-C USB connector. The campus model (for students and teachers) of our test model has 20HES01100 and is much more affordable at a price of $ 17,000.

The rival is a high-quality business notebook from other major manufacturers. The list includes the HP EliteBook 840 G4, Dell Latitude E7480 and Fujitsu LifeBook U747.

We've mentioned that the ThinkPad T470 is one of several new laptops from Lenovo with this year's new chassis. Dimensions are almost unchanged, but you can still easily distinguish the new T470 from its predecessor. Chinese manufacturers are now once again using black chassis and eliminating dark gray color schemes.

This system leaves a very positive impression and the base unit is very stable. In terms of pressure there is no problem with carbon fiber reinforced plastic chassis, just the area next to the touchpad contacts on the bottom surface, which produces a slight sound jingle. If playing it only produces a small creaking sound. The lower bezel in particular can be easily twisted, which gives rise to image distortion. Pressure from the rear on the other side is no problem and rotating it will only cause a small creaking sound. Two strong metal hinges, But you have to use both hands to open the lid. The maximum opening angle is 180 degrees.

Lenovo also uses a new chassis to update ports. The SIM (micro-SIM) tray is now in the rear battery bay. The most important change compared to the previous model is the implementation of the Thunderbolt 3 port, which is also a USB Type-C port (Gen2) that can be used for charging. TB3 is very flexible; Supported protocols include DisplayPort 1.2a. The latter can drive high resolution 4K display at 60 Hz; HDMI 1.4 output that only supports 4K at 24 Hz. VGA monitor, which is still common in some companies ..

Lenovo uses the space available on both sides of the chassis very well and also implements USB 3.0 ports (USB 3.1 Gen1, 1x always-on), one RJ45 Ethernet, SD-card reader and SmartCard. Good USB port performance; We measure more than 380 MB / s using external hdd Samsung SSD T3.

In addition to the integrated Gigabit controller (Intel I219V) for wired networks, you can obviously use wireless networks as well. Lenovo offers multiple adapters; Our test model is equipped with Intel Dual-Band Wireless-AC 8265. The name already shows that it is a dual-band module (2x2, 2.4 & 5 GHz) with a maximum transfer rate of 867 Mbps. All modern WiFi standards including 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.2 are supported. The Intel module actually supports 4.2 standards, but the operating system limits it to 4.1 according to Lenovo. Optional Tri-Band Wireless-AC 18.265 WiFi module from Intel (2x2, WiGig 802.11ad) is an attractive option, which is required for wireless docking stations. More information about the latter is available in "Accessories".

Our standard WLAN test with Linksys EA8500 router (1m distance) determines excellent results for our test model. We can see 657 Mbps receive and 512 Mbps send, so the T470 is one of the faster system in this case and also can beat his brother ThinkPad E470. Only the Apple Pro's new MacBook model feels faster. We tested ThinkPad T470 with different routers during our review period (Fritz! Box 7490 & Asus RCT-AC56U) and there is no problem in terms of performance or stability.

ThinkPad T470 security tools are very comprehensive. It starts with a comprehensive BIOS, where you can set different passwords and configure all ports individually. Lenovo also implements Trusted Platform Module (TPM 2.0) and Computrace are supported as well.

You can protect Windows login with standard password, SmartCard or fingerprint scanner. Contrary to other ThinkPad T460 models, Lenovo is now applying a very convenient touch scanner, where you just have to put your finger on it.

Lenovo has announced that some new ThinkPad models will be shipped with Windows Signature edition.

ThinkPad comes with a three-year warranty by default, which also includes on-site services on the next business day.
